I saw this movie when it was first released with my girlfriend (later, my wife). I would love to see it again but it seems to have disappeared. Not only can't I find a copy of this movie, I can't find anyone else who has seen it. If I did not have the sound track, I would start questioning if I saw it or not. It was not a "great" movie but much better than many of the Black subject movies made at that time. I also saw the "Informer" from which this was taken but I prefer "Up Tight". I hope someone re-releases this movie. A generation has passed without anyone knowing that several "large", named stars acted in this largely unknown movie.

Booker T. & The MGs - Uptight! (1968)
Blaxploitation is a sub-genre of black cinema, which incorporates the culture of Blacks in America and world wide. Generally most blaxploitation movies were filmed in the 70s, but the research at blaxploitation pride has found that blaxploitation is not a simple as "blacks" being "exploitated" thus earning the title as blaxploitation. Blaxploitation is a science that needs to be properly broken down and delivered in a manner where one can distinguish between blaxploitation and black cinema. Blax-Pride is here to help clear any confusion and offer a wealth of information on blaxploitation and black cinema. Enjoy.

I have recently purchased the soundtrack from a UK site. Found it marvellous. Obviously I've never seen the movie and don't think I will ever find the dvd here in Italy.
Bye bye my friend
This is one of my favorite films. Every now and then they screen it in New York. Saw it in Brooklyn during the Afro-Punk Festival two years ago. Ruby Dee spoke afterward.
Uptight can be seen on Netflix instant queue.
