Hard to believe that this flick ever did get made. It doesn't take much for people to label this as racist material, It came out at a time when black folks were able to get revenge on cinema. Well, they accomplish it well here. Ralph Bakshi's half animated, half live-action flick is actually a memorable one. Though it benefits from the Uncle Remus Tales as was already mentioned, Coonskin does have its own original elements that it seems no one else would touch. Watch for the clever voice-overs which perfectly fit the characters. I would'nt recommend this movie for everyone, thats for sure. But for die-hard animation freaks, here's one for ya!
Also you will notice Kung Fu movies on this site as well. What does this have to do with Blaxploitation? Well, the more action packed Blaxploitation films did not just street fight. Oh no.....they thought they were Kung Fu Masters. Chinese martial art movies gave a sense of invincibility to these actors. Seeing how cool it was to be a masterful fighter, why not just integrate this with Pimpin', Hustlin', Jive Talkin' and Pam Grier? Blax-Pride!!!

I remember seeing this movie at blockbuster 20 years ago on vhs, it was renamed Street Fight. And at the time I couldn't rent it because of my age, later on when I was 16 my pops let me watch it, and it was heavy. Later on now in my mid 2o's I watched it again and it's still heavy.
I had watch this film on a site called www.afro.org, and it became another Bakshi favorite; and I had heard it was renamed on VHS as "Street Fight;" of course I wonder if it is edited or is it the title that is edited?
does a soundtrack even exist for this movie? where is it availbale?
Word is a of yet the sdtrk is unreleased.
IMDB says Chico Hamilton did the sdtrk.
I'm sure it will finally be released, most likely by someone overseas [of US].
