Disco 9000's ten tracks mark the sharp transition in Taylor's amazing career, from being a straight soul singer to being a soul-disco singer. While the keyboards and electronic drums are everywhere present and the beats are geared to the dancefloor, there is nothing here that is really inconsistent with Taylor's trademark soul delivery. For example, check the in-the-pocket groove of "Play Something Pretty" or the R&B-reggae fusion in "I Got This Thing for Your Love." Certainly the hard funk on "Your Love Is Rated X" and the title track (written by Taylor) might seem at odds with the smooth soul crooner's ideal, but it's still there, and it rises above the arrangements into the heights of R&B heaven. Disco 9000 is a record that deserves to be re-evaluated in the lieu of this great artist's contribution. Wait until the nu-soul groovers get ahold of it.

Also you will notice Kung Fu movies on this site as well. What does this have to do with Blaxploitation? Well, the more action packed Blaxploitation films did not just street fight. Oh no.....they thought they were Kung Fu Masters. Chinese martial art movies gave a sense of invincibility to these actors. Seeing how cool it was to be a masterful fighter, why not just integrate this with Pimpin', Hustlin', Jive Talkin' and Pam Grier? Blax-Pride!!!

Hi. That tracklisting is for the johnnie taylor compilation cd, issued under the same name - disco 9000. It's not the disco 9000 soundtrack
I was suprised to find so many of Johnnies better songs on there. But not when I read up on the review from Blaxploitation.com. O.K. You got the proper tracklisting then? Do You have acess to the actual OST?
O.K. From AMG Here's The proper tracklist and some info to boot:
Review by Andrew Hamilton AMG
The soundtrack of the movie Disco 9000 (later retitled Fass Black after the blaxploitation flick's main character). Johnnie Taylor had a small part --performing "Disco Lady" -- in the less-than-thrilling box-office flop. Incidentally, "Disco Lady" is not part of the soundtrack. Sony records issued an album with this title in 1998 that is essentially a "best of Johnnie Taylor at CBS" CD and not the original soundtrack. This seven-track album contains two prototype soundtrack instrumentals; the other material, especially the formulaic "Disco 9000," is not Taylor's best. However, "I Love You Woman," "Right Now," and "I Don't Know What I'd Do Without You," are OK bluesers with contemporary productions.
