An era of its own. A time when American was in a transition from separatism to civil rights. The 70's was a Golden Age on so many levels and the influence echoes around the world in present day. Blaxploitation is considered in my opinion to be the coolest of cool. Touching on the most sensitive material in America at its time and exploiting them on the big screen or the vinyls in your record player produced for a glorified genre that nobody will ever be able to duplicate. Our mission at Blax-Pride is to educate those who are unfamiliar with this era and combine knowledge with those who are familiar.
Also you will notice Kung Fu movies on this site as well. What does this have to do with Blaxploitation? Well, the more action packed Blaxploitation films did not just street fight. Oh no.....they thought they were Kung Fu Masters. Chinese martial art movies gave a sense of invincibility to these actors. Seeing how cool it was to be a masterful fighter, why not just integrate this with Pimpin', Hustlin', Jive Talkin' and Pam Grier? Blax-Pride!!!

This soundtrack is one of several early 70s albums containing music 'composed and arranged by J.J. Johnson' with 'musical supervision by Quincy Jones'. A strong album from a Western film starring Bill Cosby, this LP features a great theme from Bill Withers and some good breakbeat funk cuts. 'Pull, Jubal, pull' features some fine funk drumming and harmonica.

"Man and Boy" is the dullest movie I have ever seen in a theater. I remember it well, a double feature of "Man and Boy" with "The Legend of Boggy Creek," a tawdry exploitation feature about Big Foot-which was the movie I wanted to see (It was heavily advertised on TV and it was a dud.) I saw it in a old movie palace (1930) that had seen better days, in Hammond Indiana (the Paramount), the auditorium was mostly empty and, I remember, it took FOREVER-I MEAN FOREVER-for "Man and Boy" to end. The movie was dry and dusty, it even looked yellow and dried out. Funny what stays with you as you get older. Love your site and really appreciate what you have done here.
