An era of its own. A time when American was in a transition from separatism to civil rights. The 70's was a Golden Age on so many levels and the influence echoes around the world in present day. Blaxploitation is considered in my opinion to be the coolest of cool. Touching on the most sensitive material in America at its time and exploiting them on the big screen or the vinyls in your record player produced for a glorified genre that nobody will ever be able to duplicate. Our mission at Blax-Pride is to educate those who are unfamiliar with this era and combine knowledge with those who are familiar.
Also you will notice Kung Fu movies on this site as well. What does this have to do with Blaxploitation? Well, the more action packed Blaxploitation films did not just street fight. Oh no.....they thought they were Kung Fu Masters. Chinese martial art movies gave a sense of invincibility to these actors. Seeing how cool it was to be a masterful fighter, why not just integrate this with Pimpin', Hustlin', Jive Talkin' and Pam Grier? Blax-Pride!!!

This movie is a heavily reedited version of the amazing, six-part Lone Wolf and Cub series, which was directed by Kenji Misumi. The American director, Robert Houston, edited scenes from the first three films in the series to somehow create a new, although quite sloppy, version of the story. I will give him some credit for adding more sound effects, which were severely lacking in the original picture; and for recruiting W. Michael Lewis and Mark Lindsey to create this excellent soundtrack. This new music, along with the eerie narration from the boy, make this film better suited for the ADD American public. The original, although vastly superior, would be considered rather boring. If you're interested in the movie and appreciate quality film making, I highly recommend watching the original Kenji Misumi masterpiece as it was intended to be seen. Shogun Assassin is a lobotomized version of Lone Wolf And Cub.

you should change the name of your website to Blaxploitation and Kung-Fu cinema & music, or something to that effect. Blax. and early 70's/80's Kung-Fu aren't the same in any way with the exception of being low budget works. anyway, here's a little bit of film history.
